Timing, Pace and What to Wear

As a private tour, the day runs on your schedule rather than a fixed group timetable. Most travelers begin with a hotel pickup around 09:00 to 10:00 and finish with drop-off back at their accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, roughly 17:00 to 18:00, for a total of about 8 to 10 hours including drive time between sites, guided visits and a lunch break. You can start earlier, linger longer at a favorite stop, or wrap up once you feel you've seen enough, and exact timings shift a little by season.

Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes or light hiking boots, since you'll be on uneven ground during the Ihlara Valley walk and inside the tight passages of the underground city. Dress in layers, because temperatures swing through the day and between the cool cave interiors and the open valleys. There's no strict dress code at the natural sites, but modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is appreciated at the old cave churches and monastery.
