Love Valley sits just outside Goreme, on the road toward Avanos, and it's known for one thing above all: the tall, oddly proportioned rock spires that fill its floor. These are fairy chimneys, cones of soft volcanic tuff capped with harder basalt, shaped over millions of years as wind and water wore away everything softer around the caps. The valley got its nickname because of the shape of the columns, and the name has stuck on maps and tour itineraries alike. What sets Love Valley apart from Cappadocia's other valleys is the sheer height and density of these formations, some of them well over the height of a house.

The valley itself is free to walk into, and there's no gate, ticket booth, or set opening hours in the way you'd find at a museum or underground city. You reach it either on foot along the trails that run between Goreme, Uchisar, and Cavusin, or as part of a wider valley circuit. Most people see Love Valley bundled with the neighboring Rose, Red, Kiliclar, and Meskendir valleys, since they connect and share the same landscape of eroded rock and old cave dwellings. Guided quad bike, jeep, and horseback tours all pass through here, taking the dirt tracks that are hard to reach on your own, and hot air balloons drift over the whole area at dawn.

Timing matters more than anything else at Love Valley. The light at sunrise and sunset turns the pale rock gold and pink, which is why so many of the tours here are scheduled around dawn or dusk rather than the flat midday hours. There's a well-known panoramic viewpoint on the road above the valley where cars and tour vehicles stop for photos looking down over the spires. Bring water, wear shoes you don't mind getting dusty, and if you're hiking the trails rather than riding, give yourself a couple of hours to link Love Valley with the valleys next door.
