Opening Hours and Dress Code
Hagia Sophia is open daily from 09:00 to 19:00, with the last entry at 18:30. Because it's a working mosque, it shuts to tourists during the five daily prayers, usually for 75 to 90 minutes each. The longest closure runs Fridays from 12:30 to 14:30 for the main weekly prayer, so aim to arrive outside those windows.
The Blue Mosque opens daily but changes with the season: 08:30 to 19:00 in summer (April 1 to September 30) and 08:30 to 17:00 in winter (October 1 to March 31), with last admission 30 minutes before closing. It also closes for each of the five daily prayers, about 90 minutes at a time, and stays shut on Friday mornings until 14:30 for Jumu'ah.
Both mosques ask for modest dress. Women should wear a skirt to the knee or longer, or full-length trousers, keep shoulders and arms covered, and put on a headscarf inside. Men need full-length trousers or knee-length shorts, and sleeveless shirts aren't allowed. Children under eight don't have to follow the dress code.
