Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sophia & Blue Mosque Tickets with Audio Guide
About this tour
Three of Istanbul's landmark sites on one ticket: the Basilica Cistern, an underground Byzantine reservoir with its famous Medusa-head column bases; Hagia Sophia, the domed monument that has been both cathedral and mosque; and the Blue Mosque, lined with more than 20,000 Iznik tiles under six minarets. Each stop comes with an audio guide you download to your phone, so you can move at your own pace and skip the ticket-office lines.
Highlights
- A forest of marble columns, each carved differently, holding up the Basilica Cistern
- The two Medusa heads set as column bases, still unexplained after centuries
- The cistern's mix of dark water, low light and Byzantine stonework, once feeding the Great Palace of Constantinople
- Learn about the cistern's role in supplying water to the Great Palace of Constantinople.
- A cool, quiet break underground, away from the crowded streets above
- Hagia Sophia's blend of Byzantine and Ottoman design layered over centuries
- Hagia Sophia's central dome, an engineering leap that shaped domes for centuries after
- Byzantine mosaics and Islamic calligraphy sharing the same walls
- The atmosphere of two working mosques still open for daily prayer
- More than 20,000 blue Iznik tiles inside the Blue Mosque, the patterns that gave it its name
- The Blue Mosque's six minarets, unusual enough to make it stand out on the skyline
- The Blue Mosque's wide prayer hall, lit by stained glass and lined with calligraphy
- Experience the calm and contemplative atmosphere of an active place of worship that continues to welcome worshippers daily.

Opening Hours and Dress Code for All Three Sites
The Basilica Cistern runs two separate visiting sessions each day. The daytime session is 09:00 to 18:30, then the site closes briefly and reopens for an evening session from 19:30 to 22:00, when the lighting gives it a very different mood. It stays shut between 18:30 and 19:30, and a daytime ticket does not cover the evening slot, so buy the right one for when you want to go. At both mosques, modest dress is required: women cover shoulders, arms and legs and wear a headscarf; men wear long trousers or knee-length shorts, no sleeveless tops. Children under eight are exempt.
Check the official site for current visiting times before you go.Available Days / Times
