The museum opens in the morning and closes in the late afternoon or early evening, though hours shift with the season, so it's worth checking the current schedule before you head over. Arriving right at opening or later in the day is your best bet for thinner crowds. Most people spend about two to three hours here, which is enough to walk through the calligraphy, textile, ceramic, and manuscript galleries at an easy pace.
Dress modestly out of respect for the setting and its religious material. Keep your shoulders and knees covered, and skip anything tight, sheer, or revealing. Photography is fine in most rooms, but flash and tripods are usually off limits to protect the artifacts, so watch for posted signs. The building is central and has ramps and accessible pathways, with plenty of cafes and restaurants a short walk away when you're ready for a break.
