Opening Hours and Dress Code
Topkapi Palace is open every day except Tuesdays. From April 1 to October 1 the hours are 09:00 to 18:00, and from October 1 to April 1 they are 09:00 to 17:00. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and the palace is closed on the first day of Eid al-Fitr. There is no formal dress code, but avoid very revealing clothing if you plan to combine your visit with Hagia Sophia or the Blue Mosque nearby, and wear comfortable shoes since the complex involves a lot of walking.
The Basilica Cistern runs on two daily sessions. The daytime session is 09:00 to 18:30, then the site closes briefly and reopens for an evening session from 19:30 to 22:00, which has different, enhanced lighting. It stays shut between 18:30 and 19:30, and a daytime ticket does not cover the evening session. There is no dress code here either, though modest clothing helps if you are also visiting the nearby mosques. Because the interior is damp with uneven footing, supportive, non-slip shoes are a good idea.
