Hours, Dress Code & Timing Your Visit

The Blue Mosque is open to visitors every day, though the hours shift with the season. From April 1 to September 30 it welcomes visitors 08:30 to 19:00, and from October 1 to March 31 the hours are 08:30 to 17:00. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Because this is a working mosque, it closes to tourists during each of the five daily prayers for roughly 90 minutes at a time, and on Fridays it stays closed to visitors until 14:30 for the Jumu'ah prayer. Plan your arrival around those windows and you'll have the run of the place.

Modest dress is required. Women should wear a skirt to the knee or longer or full-length trousers, keep shoulders and arms covered, and put on a headscarf inside. Men need full-length trousers or knee-length shorts, and sleeveless shirts aren't allowed. Children under eight have no dress code. If you turn up without a scarf or in shorts, coverings are usually available at the entrance.
